Happenings

Been a while since I've posted in here. So what's new with me? Here's a run down:
- I'm currently sitting in the waiting room in the service department of my local Buick dealership. It's the first maintenance service for my 2023 Buick Encore GX since I bought it in June 2023. It has a little over 4400 miles on it now - and it wouldn't even be that much if I hadn't taken the car on three trips - outer banks, NC in early August, Hendersonville, TN for Thanksgiving, and Rockville, MD just last week. Each of these trips included my 88 soon to be 89 year old father.
- Unfortunately last week's trip to Rockville, MD was for a funeral. It was for my uncle. He was 94 and would've been 95 in May. That being said, I think that was the last driving trip we will be taking together. Any future trips will have to be flying. The main issue is that within the last two years, my father gets extreme anxiety just before we go on those trips. We try to share driving duties (yes, at almost 89 he still drives) but my Dad doesn't have the reflexes he used to have when he was younger. Even so, he still insisted on leaving at 4:50 a.m. It's still dark out at that time and my Dad still wanted to drive at the first leg of the trip - and therein lies the problem. The first part of the trip requires using I-270 and I-495 in the MD, DC, VA area (which I think accounts for a significant portion, if not the majority of the anxiety - he's even as much said so himself). Even at that time traffic in that area is already horrendous. Almost as soon as we got on 270, my Dad must have inadvertently cut someone off because somebody laid on the horn as we were trying to merge. Luckily they didn't hit us. To make a long story my Dad drove one hour, and I drove the next six.
- In other news, I recently joined the Our Time dating site. I've been on it before with little success but I thought I would give it another shot. This time I made sure I included exactly what I'm looking for in a partner. For example, it's particularly important that my potential partner be politically liberal. Of course, in order to do that, I have to set my distance range pretty far since I live in a pretty right-wing conservative state. As a result, if I match with somebody that we decide to date, at least initially, it will likely be a long distance relationship. I think I might also join Match which actually operates Our Time, but I'm trying my expand the universe of potential dating partners. If not Match, I may check out OK Cupid or Plenty of Fish, though I'm not sure whether or not those last two sites cater to a younger crowd as opposed to new retiree age people like myself.
Well, I have more I could write but I will save that for a post for another day.
Hope everyone is having a great day!
